Artist Statement

Leyla Bulmer is a Shoreham-based artist with a passion for connection and expression. Drawing inspiration from our relationship to both inner and outer worlds, the honesty of the naked figure illuminates her creativity. Using ink on fabric, Leyla allows bold and fluid figures to emerge organically. Her art is a way of truly understanding vulnerability and connection to self. She finds freedom in knowing oneself deeply and expressing oneself truthfully. The work celebrates the self while acknowledging the imperfections that make us unique. She allows something not usually visible to become seen. Leyla creates unique fine art pieces, offers personal body portraits, holds life drawing workshops, and collaborates with aligned companies.

Theme: SCAPE

My body, the vessel in which I experience my natural surroundings, is held by this land and these waters. My work honours the body as nature, a scape to explore, connect with and see the beauty in. Through sense and experience we create a perceived understanding of the world around us. The body serves as our first environment in which natural rhythms, cycles and seasons are all embodied.
